Epidemiology of valvular heart disease in a Swedish

Aortic valve regurgitation after blunt chest trauma is an uncommon condition. Although associated intracardiac lesions have been described aortic and subsequent sequential mitral regurgitation seems to be extremely rare [1,2]. Mitral regurgitation is a frequent finding in patients with aortic stenosis scheduled for aortic valve replacement. Detection of mitral regurgitation in such patients has important implications, as it can independently affect functional status and prognosis. When mitral regurgitation is moderate to severe, a decision to operate on both valves should only be made following a careful clinical Mild Mitral and Moderate Aortic valve regurgitation. I am 39 yrs old , male and My cardiologist diagnosed me of having mild mitral valve regurgitation and moderate aortic valve regurgitation.

Connective tissue disorders may affect aortic function, and a stiff aorta may increase the severity of MR. BACKGROUND: Concomitant mitral valve regurgitation is often present in patients with aortic stenosis. The additional MV replacement is associated with high operative risk. Previous studies have shown an amelioration of MV regurgitation after aortic valve replacement but most of the patient groups were heterogenous. It consists of three cusps such as left, right and posterior cusps. The main function of the mitral valve is to prevent the backflow of blood from the aorta to the left ventricle. Backflow of blood is known as aortic regurgitation.

Aortic mitral valve regurgitation

Mitral valve regurgitation and aortic valve regurgitation are valvular heart diseases in which the mitral and aortic valves do not function efficiently, leading to backward flow of blood. Common symptoms for both conditions include breathlessness, fatigue, chest pain, cough and symptoms of right or left ventricular failure. Se hela listan på mayoclinic.org The two most common valve diseases are aortic valve stenosis (AVS) and mitral valve regurgitation (MR). AVS is the most commonly encountered valve disease nowadays and affects almost 5% of elderly population. In particular, AVS poses a great challenge due to the multiple comorbidities and frailty of this patient subset.
